Quill to Act

Quill to Act New Play Festival

Be a part of MCT’s 2025 Season!

Three scripts are chosen from submissions across the country and are given curated staged readings for your entertainment and feedback. After each reading is a talkback where you give us your feedback on the scripts. Based on your feedback, our panel will choose one of the three finalists to be produced as part of our 2025 season.

2024 Quill to Act Readings

Script Synopses:

PIECES by Thomas Misuraca

Four recent transplant recipients are gathered at a Palm Springs resort for
Labor Day weekend. They soon learn their host is the widow of their
donor; she wants to spend one last weekend with “pieces” of her
husband, secretly hoping to find that one of them has inherited his soul.
As the weekend progresses they all learn that they each have as many
emotional scars as they do physical ones.

MRS. WHITMAN’S WORDS FOR WOMEN by Shayne Kennedy

In the fall of 1918, three young women converge in the recently built Martha Cook Building, one of the first female dormitories on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. As the trio navigates a system designed more to develop them into gracious wives and competent hostesses rather than successful career women, they begin to rebel against the limits placed on them. Their ultimate campaign, an effort to illegally distribute information about birth control to factory girls in Detroit, brings results none of them could have anticipated.

PROVENANCE by Daniel Billet

Provenance tells the story of a woman, Melora Shriver, curator of a
renowned museum of antiquities, who is presented with an amazing
archeological find by an important figure from her past. Jumping
backwards and forwards through time, it deals with questions of
ownership, appropriation, discrimination, history, and responsibility.

Your input is invaluable, so seeing all three readings would be great, but if you can only make it to one, it is still impactful to helping us choose the best production for our patrons.

Why our patrons love murphys creek theatre

Took my mother to see my friend Kirk Summers in Romeo and Juliet during opening weekend. It was the best production of the tragedy I’ve ever seen. The cast was amazing. The costumes and scenery were very professional. My mom and I laughed and I teared up a little. If you've never seen a play at this little theatre please make sure you see this play there you won’t regret it. If you’ve never seen Shakespeare, the cast makes it very easy to follow.

Murphys

I am not a Shakespere fan but OMG my husband and I were blown away by this production. The acting was awesome and all the dialog was delivered so that you could understand everything that was going on. I had tears in my eyes at the end! Kudos to all involved from the lighting and sound to the set decoration to the expansion of the stage and most of all the actors. Truly a first rate production, run don't walk to MCT for a wonderful theater experience.

Murphys Creek Theatre is on a roll! Robbie Allen, the new Artistic Director, has put together a great season for 2019. He has an amazing pool of talent to call on, including a brilliant set designer. Even the building is transforming -- new roof, new lighting, new paint, and revitalized backstage. 2018's last production, Inspecting Carol, played to sold-out houses! People are realizing they can count on exciting theatre from MCT.
