2023 Season

One Christmas Carol

Adapted from Charles Dickens
by Douglas H. Baker

December 1- December 23, 2023

With one actor and over 35 distinct characters, this one-man tour de force is an intimate and spirited evening of theatre that everyone in the family will love! Utilizing only chairs, Dickens’ famous story about selfishness and selflessness is stripped down to its bare essence, forgoing the usual opulence of the holidays and focusing on what is of utmost importance during the season. Dickens’ colorful characters are all present—Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, Fezziwig, Belle, the Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future—springing to new life with a treasure trove of moral lessons for one and all. Just one actor and a timeless story.

Let There Be Love

by Kwame Kwei-Armah

CLOSED
March 24 - April 15, 2023

Dwight Mahabir stars as Alfred, an elderly and ill West Indian man aggrieved of, well, pretty much everything. His daughter Gemma is a sour disappointment and, against his will, has hired a young Polish immigrant to be his caretaker. Mostly, Alfred is angry that he will die in East London, a place he migrated to in the late 1950s but never called home. Let There Be Love touches on culture clashes, physical and verbal abuse, family rifts, aging, immigration, and social change. This work of art is a bittersweet Valentine to living and dying on your own terms, and to the outsider inside all of us, eternally standing at the door, waiting to be welcomed home.

The Last 5 Years

Written and composed by Jason Robert Brown

August 25- September 16, 2023

With music and lyrics by Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown, this musical has captivated audiences and critics worldwide, earning a Drama Desk Award (music and lyrics) and a film adaptation. The Last Five Years is an intimate window into a couple’s brief and bittersweet marriage. Cathy, a struggling actress, and Jamie, a budding novelist on the brink of wild success, are 20-somethings in New York who meet, fall in love, marry, and divorce over the span of five years. Cathy tells the story from the end of their marriage; Jamie begins from when they first meet. As the musical unfolds, Cathy moves backward in time to the beginning of the relationship as Jamie moves toward the end; they meet only once, in the middle, at their wedding. Since its Off-Broadway premiere in 2002, Brown’s funny, poignant, and devastatingly honest two-person production has enraptured audiences worldwide with its spellbinding and emotional score and libretto.

The Moors

by Jen Silverman

October 6 - October 28, 2023

Start your Halloween festivities and bring the whole family to this spooky, dark comedy.

A governess arrives in a remote corner of the Yorkshire moors to find a household of oddballs. Two sisters, a maid with identity issues, an old hound, and a moorhen are the only inhabitants of a house that creaks with creepy mysteries. Inspired by the letters of Charlotte Brontë, this black comedy written by Jen Silverman is an homage to the Brontës and a gothic pastiche in one.
